Textile Roofs Workshop 2024

The Textile Roofs Workshop is a renowned event that brings together leading experts in the design and realisation of textile structures. This year’s 26th edition offered participants the chance to engage in meaningful discussions and learning experiences while enjoying the scenic views of Berlin from a solar-powered boat on the River Spree, all under beautiful spring skies. The workshop was held from 28th to 30th April at the Solar Seminarship in Spreebogen, Berlin.

The programme featured lectures by prominent figures from both industry and academia, hands-on case study development, and informal tutorials. Keynote talks covered a wide range of topics, including the fundamentals of lightweight structures, computational and physical modelling, tensile architecture design, advances in composite materials, and various applications of membrane structures.

We were honoured to have AMA board members Katja Bernert and Aoife Brennan. Ms Katja represented Mehler Texnologies GmbH, and delivered an inspiring presentation titled Patterns for Parasols – Technical Textile Between Tension and Decoration, which explored the innovative use of technical textiles in parasol design, balancing aesthetics with function. Ms Aoife introduced the AMA Awards, highlighting the importance of recognising excellence in textile architecture and encouraging workshop participants to take part in the upcoming awards.

A heartfelt thank you to Textile Roofs for the kind invitation and excellent organisation. We look forward to the next edition!
