AMA recognises the importance of our living environment and the pressing need for sustainable practices in the face of climate change and escalating environmental challenges. As part of its commitment to a greener future, AMA seeks to contribute meaningfully to more sustainable and environmentally friendly construction. This commitment extends to building with lightweight structures and membrane materials such as fabrics and foils. These innovative materials and construction techniques are particularly well-suited to supporting environmental goals. Owing to their minimal structural dimensions compared to conventional construction methods, lightweight structures offer significant benefits in various aspects of sustainable building. These advantages include reduced energy consumption, lower transportation demands, increased recyclability, and decreased emissions. Additionally, they contribute to the conservation of materials over the course of a long service life.

In 2021, AMA launched its inaugural competition aimed at celebrating and promoting excellence in sustainability and the responsible use of natural resources. The AMA AWArd honours outstanding achievements within the realm of lightweight and membrane structures. The Award comprises four categories. Two of these — Products and Projects — are open exclusively to AMA members. The remaining two — Design and Idea — are intended for non-members. Through this initiative, AMA seeks to acknowledge and reward individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions towards a more sustainable future for our planet, or who are demonstrating a firm commitment to doing so through innovative concepts and ideas.

  • All categories will be assessed based on their contribution, or potential contribution to environmental protection and the advancement of sustainable building practices.

    Key evaluation points include:

    • Improvement of environmental conditions for humans, animals and/or plants.

    • Reduction of non-renewable energy consumption, emissions or waste, where this impact is measurable.

    • Utilisation of renewable energy sources, such as solar, thermal, wind or water energy.

    • Enhancement of recycling processes and material recovery.

    • Extension of durability or service life, with a focus on measurable improvements.

    • Improvement of working conditions or construction processes.

    • Outstanding structural or architectural design, particularly in relation to use, location, visual impact, and functionality.

These criteria aim to ensure that all submissions are evaluated on their tangible and innovative contributions towards a more sustainable and resource-efficient built environment.

  • All applicants must fully comply with the following conditions:

    Submission Requirements
A fully completed application form, including all required attachments, must be submitted by email to info@amaforum.com no later than 14:00 CET on the day of the deadline.

    Scope of Work
Applicants may only be considered for awards that relate directly to their own scope of work. For example, a producer may be recognised for an innovative product, a manufacturer for a unique membrane structure, an architect for the design of a project, or an inventor for their own idea or patent.

    Multiple Contributors
It is permissible for different parties involved in the same project to submit separate applications, provided each relates to their own contribution. For instance, a company may apply for recognition of the project execution, an architect for the associated design, and a material supplier for the materials used. However, a material supplier cannot be awarded for the design of the project.

    Right to Withdraw an Award
The AMA Board reserves the right to revoke an award by a simple majority vote in the event of a breach of obligations by an award winner. Neither applicants nor award recipients have a legal claim to receive or retain an award.
